Projects and Activities
Our Kiwanis club participates in a variety of projects throughout the year that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally and worldwide. Additionally, we have speakers at our weekly meetings to explore topics of interest to the membership. We engage in a number of social activities to share experiences, talents and our collective interests. All represent great opportunities for service, friendships, and personal growth. Signature Project
The Kiwanis of Fremont Ohio signature project is the Kiwanis Lending Libraries. The purpose of this project is to promote life long literacy for everyone and to encourage parents to read to and with their preschool children. Kiwanis provides new and gently used books to 6 preschools in Sandusky County. The preschools are: Head Start - Fremont Center, Head Start - Clyde Center, St. Ann's, Sacred Heart, First Presbyterian Church and Liberty Center. Parents are encouraged to borrow a book, take it home and read it to and with their preschool child, return the book and select another. Parents are able to spend quality time with their child learning and enjoying the books. Best practices for reading a book with a child include asking questions about the pictures on the page, pointing to the words as they are read, repeating new words and explaining as needed and asking questions about previous pages and turning back to verify answers.Kiwanis provides new and gently used books and magazine subscriptions to Bethesda Care Center. These books are for the enrichment and entertainment of the residents to promote life long literacy.
